What is the purpose of an auditorium?

An auditorium is a room, of variable size, which, given the seating arrangement and its acoustic characteristics, is aimed at various activities, from music or theatre performances, to lectures, rallies, business presentations, assemblies, training sessions or even classes.  Currently, most auditoriums are multifunctional and can either belong to public authorities, such as municipal auditoriums or at schools, or to private companies, such as hotels.
